WRAC Create Product Conditional Redirect

Overview

Product-based conditional redirects allow you to customize the post-checkout experience for customers based on the specific products in their order. This powerful feature lets you create targeted thank you pages and follow-up experiences for individual products in your store, providing the most personalized post-purchase journey possible.

Benefits of Product-Based Redirects

  • Create specialized thank you pages for individual products
  • Offer product-specific upsells, cross-sells, or complementary items
  • Provide tailored instructions, tutorials, or resources relevant to specific products
  • Deliver personalized post-purchase support based on exact product purchases
  • Improve customer experience with highly relevant post-checkout content
  • Track conversion paths for specific high-value products

Step-by-Step Guide: Creating a Specific Product Redirect

1. Access the Conditional Redirects Form

  • Navigate to WooCommerce > WRAC Redirect
  • Click on the “Conditional Redirects” tab
  • Click “Add New Redirect” button

2. Configure Basic Rule Information

  • Enable the Rule: Toggle the switch to enable your product redirect rule
  • Name Your Rule: Enter a descriptive name like “WordPress Pennant Custom Page”
  • Add a Description: Briefly explain what your rule does, e.g., “Redirects customers who purchase the WordPress Pennant to a specialized thank you page”

3. Set Up the Specific Product Condition

  • In the Redirect Conditions section, click the “+ Add Condition” button
  • From the first dropdown menu, select “Product”
  • From the second dropdown (operator), select “Includes”
  • In the third dropdown, click “Select Product” to open the product list
  • Select your desired product (e.g., “WordPress Pennant”, “Hoodie with Zipper”, “Sunglasses”, etc.)
  • The condition is now set to redirect when an order includes the specific product you selected

4. Configure Redirect Actions

  • In the Redirect Actions section:
    • Redirect Type: Select “Redirect to Page” from the dropdown
    • Successful Order Destination: From “Select Successful Redirect Page” dropdown, choose the appropriate landing page for customers who purchased your selected product
    • Failed Order Destination: From “Select Failed Order Redirect Page” dropdown, choose where customers should go if their payment fails

5. Optional: Add Time Limitations

  • If you want this product redirect to be temporary (e.g., for promotions or product launches):
    • Enable the “Redirect Time Range” toggle
    • Set the Start Date and End Date for when this redirect should be active
    • The rule will automatically activate and deactivate based on these dates

6. Save Your Product Redirect Rule

  • Click “Save changes” at the bottom of the form
  • Your product-based redirect is now active (if enabled)

Advanced Product Redirect Configurations

Multiple Products in One Rule

You can create more complex rules by adding additional product conditions:

  • Set up your first product condition as described above
  • Click “+ Add Condition” again
  • Add another Product condition with a different product
  • This creates an “AND” relationship – the order must contain all specified products to trigger the redirect

Product Exclusions

You can also redirect orders that do NOT contain specific products:

  • Add a Product condition
  • Select “Does Not Include” from the operator dropdown
  • Select the product you want to exclude
  • This rule will trigger for orders that don’t contain the specified product

Combining with Other Conditions

For more targeted redirects, combine product conditions with other factors:

  • Product + Payment Method: Different experiences based on both what product and how customers purchase
  • Product + User Role: Special product experiences for wholesale vs. retail customers
  • Product + Order Total: Premium post-checkout experience for high-value product purchases

Practical Examples

Example 1: Technical Product Setup Guide

Rule Configuration:

  • Condition: Product Includes “WordPress Pennant”
  • Action: Redirect to Page “WordPress Pennant Setup Guide”

Result: When customers purchase the WordPress Pennant, they’re redirected to a thank you page featuring a detailed setup guide, installation instructions, and tips for getting the most out of their new product.

Example 2: Apparel Care Instructions

Rule Configuration:

  • Condition: Product Includes “Hoodie with Zipper”
  • Action: Redirect to Page “Hoodie Care Guide”

Result: Customers who purchase the Hoodie with Zipper are redirected to a page with washing instructions, fabric care tips, and complementary apparel suggestions.

Example 3: Limited Edition Product Experience

Rule Configuration:

  • Condition: Product Includes “Sunglasses”
  • Action: Redirect to Page “Premium Sunglasses Experience”
  • Time Range: Active during summer months only

Result: During summer, customers purchasing the Sunglasses are redirected to a premium thank you page with styling tips, warranty information, and exclusive offers for sunglasses accessories.

Troubleshooting Product-Based Redirects

  • Rule Not Triggering: Verify the product ID or SKU exactly matches your WooCommerce product
  • Multiple Rules Conflict: Check if you have other rules that might take precedence
  • Variable Products Issues: Ensure you’re selecting the correct product variation if applicable
  • Time-Based Problems: Confirm the current date falls within your configured date range

Best Practices

  • Create dedicated landing pages tailored to each specific product
  • Include product-relevant content, resources, and next steps
  • Consider the customer’s intent when purchasing specific products
  • Test each product redirect to ensure a smooth customer experience
  • Update product-specific pages regularly with new information or tips
  • Use product redirects for your best-selling or highest-margin items
  • Monitor which product redirects lead to the highest additional engagement

Product-based redirects represent the most granular level of post-purchase personalization, allowing you to create truly custom experiences based on exactly what products your customers have purchased.
