Overview
Payment method conditional redirects allow you to customize the post-checkout experience for customers based on how they pay for their order. Benefits of Payment Method Redirects
- Create specialized thank you pages for different payment types
- Offer payment-specific instructions, confirmation details, or next steps
- Provide tailored information about processing times for different payment methods
- Segment customers based on payment preferences for future marketing
- Display relevant follow-up options based on payment method used
- Improve customer experience with payment-relevant post-checkout content
Step-by-Step Guide: Creating a Payment Method Redirect
1. Access the Conditional Redirects Form
- Navigate to WooCommerce > WRAC Redirect
- Click on the “Conditional Redirects” tab
- Click “Add New Redirect” button
2. Configure Basic Rule Information
- Enable the Rule: Toggle the switch to enable your payment method redirect rule
- Name Your Rule: Enter a descriptive name like “Direct Bank Transfer Instructions”
- Add a Description: Briefly explain what your rule does, e.g., “Redirects customers who pay via bank transfer to a page with detailed transfer instructions”
3. Set Up the Payment Method Condition
- In the Redirect Conditions section, click the “+ Add Condition” button
- From the first dropdown menu, select “Payment Method”
- From the second dropdown (operator), select “Is”
- In the third dropdown, click “Select Payment Method” to open the payment method list
- Select your desired payment method (e.g., “Direct bank transfer”, “Check payments”, “Cash on delivery”, etc.)
- The condition is now set to redirect when an order uses your selected payment method
4. Configure Redirect Actions
- In the Redirect Actions section:
- Redirect Type: Select “Redirect to Page” from the dropdown
- Successful Order Destination: From “Select Successful Redirect Page” dropdown, choose the appropriate landing page for customers who used your selected payment method

5. Optional: Add Time Limitations
- If you want this payment method redirect to be temporary:
- Enable the “Redirect Time Range” toggle
- Set the Start Date and End Date for when this redirect should be active
- The rule will automatically activate and deactivate based on these dates
6. Save Your Payment Method Redirect Rule
- Click “Save changes” at the bottom of the form
- Your payment method-based redirect is now active (if enabled)
Advanced Payment Method Redirect Configurations
Multiple Payment Methods in One Rule
You can create more complex rules by grouping similar payment methods:
- Set up your first payment method condition as described above
- Click “+ Add Condition” again
- Add another Payment Method condition with a different method
- This creates an “OR” relationship – the order will trigger the redirect if any of the specified payment methods is used
Payment Method Exclusions
You can also redirect orders that do NOT use specific payment methods:
- Add a Payment Method condition
- Select “Is Not” from the operator dropdown
- Select the payment method you want to exclude
- This rule will trigger for orders using any payment method except the specified one
Combining with Other Conditions
For more targeted redirects, combine payment method conditions with other factors:
- Payment Method + Product Category: Different instructions based on both payment type and product category
- Payment Method + Country: Customized payment instructions based on regional banking systems
- Payment Method + Order Total: Special handling for high-value orders paid through specific methods
Practical Examples
Example 1: Bank Transfer Payment Instructions
Rule Configuration:
- Condition: Payment Method Is “Direct bank transfer”
- Action: Redirect to Page “Bank Transfer Instructions”
Result: When customers pay via bank transfer, they’re redirected to a detailed page with your bank account details, reference number instructions, processing timeframes, and next steps to confirm their payment.
Example 2: Check Payment Processing Information
Rule Configuration:
- Condition: Payment Method Is “Check payments”
- Action: Redirect to Page “Check Payment Information”
Result: Customers who pay by check are redirected to a page with mailing address details, check processing times, order hold information, and when to expect shipping after check clearance.
Example 3: Cash on Delivery Guidelines
Rule Configuration:
- Condition: Payment Method Is “Cash on delivery”
- Action: Redirect to Page “COD Guidelines”
Result: Customers who select cash on delivery are redirected to a page with important information about preparing the exact amount, ID requirements, and what to expect during delivery.
Troubleshooting Payment Method Redirects
- Rule Not Triggering: Verify that the payment method ID exactly matches your WooCommerce payment gateway
- Multiple Rules Conflict: Check if you have other rules that might take precedence
- Gateway Configuration Issues: Ensure the payment gateway is properly configured in WooCommerce
- Time-Based Problems: Confirm the current date falls within your configured date range
Best Practices
- Create dedicated landing pages tailored to each payment method with relevant next steps
- Include clear instructions about payment processing times and expectations
- For offline payment methods (bank transfers, checks), provide complete details about how to complete the payment
- For delayed payment methods, set clear expectations about when orders will ship
- Include payment-specific contact information for payment-related questions
- Test each payment method redirect to ensure a smooth customer experience
- Update payment method pages when your payment processing details change
- Monitor which payment method redirects lead to the fewest post-purchase inquiries
Payment method redirects are an excellent way to provide clear, specific guidance to customers based on their chosen payment option, reducing confusion and support inquiries while improving the overall checkout experience.
