Overview
The WRAC Conditional Redirects feature allows store owners to create targeted post-checkout experiences based on specific order conditions like product purchased, payment method used, and other order details. Unlike Global Redirects which apply to all orders, Conditional Redirects let you create rule-based redirects that trigger only when certain conditions are met.
Important Note: Conditional Redirects and Global Redirects are separate systems.
For Conditional Redirects to work properly, you must disable Global Redirect. We recommend using either Global OR Conditional redirects for your store to avoid redirect conflicts.
Key Benefits
- Create product-specific post-checkout experiences
- Customize thank you pages based on payment methods
- Set up different journeys based on order conditions
- Target specific customer segments with relevant post-purchase information
- Build complex redirection rules for sophisticated marketing strategies
How to Access Conditional Redirects
- Navigate to WooCommerce > WRAC Redirect
- Click on the “Conditional Redirects” tab at the top
- You’ll see the Conditional Redirects management interface
Understanding the Interface
The Conditional Redirects interface consists of:
- Add New Redirect button – Creates new conditional redirect rules
- All Redirects tab – Shows all existing conditional redirect rules
- Management buttons – Add, Delete, Enable, or Disable rules
- Conditional Redirects table – Displays all your configured rules with their details
Creating a Conditional Redirect Rule
1. Add a New Rule
- Click the “Add Redirect Rule” button
- This will open the rule creation interface
2. Configure Rule Conditions
You can set conditions based on:
- Product ID – Redirect based on specific products in the order
- Payment Method – Create different experiences based on how customers pay
- User Role – Different redirects for different customer types
- Order Total – Redirect based on order value thresholds
- And other available conditions
3. Set Redirect Destinations
For each rule, specify:
- Where to redirect on successful orders:
- Select an internal page from your site
- OR specify an external URL destination
- Where to redirect on failed orders:
- Configure a separate destination for failed payments
4. Save and Activate Your Rule
- Save your rule configuration
- Ensure the rule is “Enabled” for it to work
How Conditional Redirects Work
When a customer completes checkout:
- The plugin checks all enabled Conditional Redirect rules
- If an order matches the conditions of a rule, the customer is redirected to the destination specified in that rule
- If multiple rules match, the system uses the rule with highest priority
- If no rules match, the customer follows the default WooCommerce checkout flow
Example Rule: Product-Specific Redirect
As shown in the screenshot example:
- Rule Name: Belt to Cap
- Rule Condition: When user buys a Belt
- Redirect Destination: Complementary product – Cap page
- Failed Order Destination: Beanie with Logo page
When a customer purchases a Belt, after checkout they’ll automatically be redirected to a page featuring Caps (complementary product). If their order fails, they’ll be redirected to a page featuring Beanies with Logo.
Managing Your Conditional Redirects
The Conditional Redirects table provides several management options:
- Status column – Shows if the rule is Enabled or Disabled
- Redirect Name – Your custom name for the rule
- Redirect Description – Details about what the rule does
- Redirect Conditions – The specific conditions that trigger the rule
- Redirect Actions – What happens when conditions are met
- Manage Redirects – Edit or Delete buttons for each rule
Tips for Effective Conditional Redirects
- Create descriptive rule names that clearly identify the purpose
- Start with simple rules before creating complex conditions
- Test each rule thoroughly before enabling it for customers
- Consider the customer journey and what would be most helpful after purchase
- Use conditional redirects to cross-sell complementary products
- Create special post-purchase experiences for high-value orders
Troubleshooting Conditional Redirects
- If your conditional redirects aren’t working, check:
- Is the rule Enabled? (Look for the green checkmark)
- Are Global Redirects also active? (Disable them for Conditional Redirects to work)
- Does your condition match exactly? (Product IDs must match exactly)
- Is there a higher-priority rule that’s overriding this one?
- Are the destination pages published and accessible?
Best Practices
- Use clear naming conventions for your rules
- Document the purpose of each redirect rule for team reference
- Review your rules periodically to ensure they’re still relevant
- Test the customer experience regularly by making test purchases
- Consider seasonal or promotional needs when creating temporary rules
- Monitor which rules are most effective for improving conversions
